This film explains the taking of Carentan on June 12th 1944 by the 101st Airborne Division, focusing on the role of E/506th PIR. This was depicted in episode 3 of Band of Brothers, the incredible HBO series. Filmed on location in Carentan, Normandy and using many rare wartime images and pieces of film, this WW2TV presentation offers insight into the real events. The film is narrated by Kevin Hymel, historian and author, based on one of his many magazine articles. In this case an October 2018 issue of War History https://warfarehistorynetwork.com/dai… Kevin is also a tour guide for Stephen Ambrose Tours https://stephenambrosetours.com/ and regularly leads tours to the European battlefields.

About 8 years ago, my son had some history education in his school, about ww2.

In the springtime he asked a lot about the beaches of Normady, and I decided that our summervacation was a trip for him & me to France.

Fantastic country, nice people & great food.

We stayed at Sword beach, and from there we visited a lot of places – Also Carentan, and the place Dead Mans Corner.

If you have the opportunity, it’s definitely a nice country to visit. 👍🏻🤓

      Same here,

My patents rented a camper and we traveled through all the most known spots from D-Day and the Band of Brothers movie.

      I loved it ….

      Same!
My wife wants to go see that D-Day area also. She is an historical and she doesn’t like that I know more of WWII than her 😀

Can I come along with some of you guys? My wife don’t even know dday.. History isn’t here thing and she gets tired of me talking about it.. Like 2 weeks ago I found m4 tank rounds while metal detecting and part of the track, and she is interested in my finds, but when I start a story about it, I generally walk to a door and talk to it.. She is happy for me just not really interested..

BTW, did you guys know there is an app called traces of war? You can follow the victory route with it, starting on Normandy all they way up to Germany going along hotspots, as well it tells you points of interest around you.

I was lucky enough to have the time to Tour northern France a few years ago. Did all of the beaches, Carentan, St Mere Eglise, Brecourt, it was excellent. I based myself in Caen, which was close enough for everything.

The one event that is overlooked generally and was the most impressive thing I saw was Pegasus Bridge. When the British are added to HLL, this MUST  be a map. The museum there is awesome. If you do go to northern France for a battlefield tour or to visit the sites yourselves, Pegasus Bridge must be on the agenda.

Many years ago I used to be part of a WWII reeneactment group and they would regularly go to Normandy for the anniversary. I never went and always regretted that. In fact a couple of us who caught up recently after some time are planning a trip once things clear up to head over and visit all the places, etc.

They were there for the 60th anniversary and I’ve always regretted not going to that!  Still a fair number of veterans around at that point, including a few from the division we portrayed (29th Infantry Division).

      Definitely on my bucket list!
