Morning
As a newbee to HLL I have only really tried a few roles (saving playing a captain till I’m brave on dark spiced rum one Friday night) I tried heavy machine gunner last night, you know the one where you set the gun up cant see anything but must have a massive target on your head because the enemy team repeatedly pop it like an over ripe water melon, probably doing this role an injustice as its me not playing it correctly.
So which is your least fav role???
-
05/03/2020 at 09:14 #37226
Morning there! Experience will come slowly but steadily with further playing the roles. Personally, my favorite roles are Sniper, Support, Auto. Rifleman and MG. I like all the weapons, but when it comes to roles, Officer is not one of my likings since I am pretty bad one, same with Commander. I usually play those only in case of need, to keep people in seeding half empty server. Of normal classes, I don’t like to be Anti-tank guy, nor Engineer pretty much… but again – I am not hesitating at times when it is required of me by SL or situation.

Well  i like commander, tank gunner , At and sl..
A good tank crew is pretty amazing.

Well  i like commander, tank gunner , At and sl..
Infantry in general is great with PBS teammates for that “band of brothers” feeling.
A good tank crew is pretty amazing., but artilery can also get you some amazing kills…
Medic not so much
Have fun

I don’t like to be medic. Commander would maybe do IF squad leaders listen…on public servers it’s rather “hard” to get them “in line”… In general i don’t think there are “bad roles” in the game as long they are used well, get the right directives and if they willing to complete those orders. Just look in the mirror. Would you be able to do the task when they order to… do you like a supporting role at the front or behind the lines.. are you more into supervising or into a pro-active role… At last, you don’t have much of a choice than just comply what HQ orders to do…right? 🙂

05/03/2020 at 11:13 #37239
wise words indeed
I do like the support role you feel very involved, not tried engineer will give that a whirl.
steep learning curve which I’m enjoying
-
05/03/2020 at 12:50 #37242
Medic, Rifleman and Spotter.
As medic ppl just wont wait for ya and release.
Rifleman is boring, feels like it need something extra besides the ammo box.And just dont like the gun as spotter. Feel like they need something else. As well as camo clothes.
-
05/03/2020 at 14:36 #37246
SL, commander and recently medic too became my least favorite
-
09/02/2022 at 12:30 #83563
I agree with you about riflemen. I quite like playing spotter though so I can’t agree with you there; sometimes it’s fun to run around at the enemy artillery and take them down with a tommy gun 😀

06/03/2020 at 12:14 #37275
Rifleman is the only role which doesnt get my love. Its just cannon fodder and mobile ammo box. It needs to be able to build sandbags or barbed wire at the very minimum.
My 2p on Medics, we don’t have enough of them.
If your SL goes down, without a medic you lose momentum but with a medic you have a much better chance of reaching your objective. In all the FPS games I’ve played where a medic class was available, it was one of the most important roles because you can revive the SL (+ others) and help them place new spawn points to keep driving the team forward. That was the role of medic in Squad and all the rest, follow the SL and dont lose sight of him.
A bit like the Supply and Engineer class in HLL.
Medics should be one of the most important roles in the game like the supply or engineer, I dont understand why HLL seems to lack the medic mentality that is prevalent in other team based FPS games.
As the US medic you get one of the best (if not the best) weapon for infantry so why not embrace it and save lives at the same time? I’ll admit the German Medic gets the short straw with the K98, nobody wants that at close quarters. Maybe if they gave the German medic the G43 people would play it more?-
11/10/2021 at 12:55 #75467
Why do you think the US medic has the best weapon? It is a 2 shot to kill weapon with low ammo. Kar is far better and M1 even better. I agree with you with the medic being one of the most important roles but as far as it goes with your weapon favorites i will disagree.

SL is my least favorite and commander atm, but i enjoy playin as a Medic, and MG, and Riflemen
-
09/02/2022 at 12:36 #83564
I wouldn’t say the M1 is the best gun but it is one of the best at being good overall. Sometimes it’s better to use a Garand as the damage is higher and the range is better. Situational weapons and both have their own pros and cons. The Carbine’s rate of fire is unmatched except if you’re talking about a machine gun.
The K98 is awful though. If you miss you are dead. That is a simple fact when using the Kar98. With the Carbine (or even garand to an extent) you have follow up shots within half a second without having to bolt action or switch to a less powerful pistol. It’s for that reason I much prefer playing the US (I feel that the weapons are easier to use).

14/03/2020 at 10:18 #37803
It’s a bummer, but I dislike support one of the most. It’s just. You spawn without even a pistol and the only value the role has, is that you can put down supplies. You spawn, you drop your supplies somewhere and that was it. While as a medic for example you can continuously work with what you have chosen.
-
15/03/2020 at 02:21 #37841
I don’t play rifleman or medic that much, or drive in a tank. But i prefer support
-
09/02/2022 at 12:37 #83565
Hey, that’s a pretty useful role for establishing garrisons with the Squad Leader though. Sometimes you really need a support on your team so I definitely wouldn’t say it is useless.
-
-
31/03/2020 at 09:10 #39077
I usually fill the team up with the role thats needed ( yes i know, i am simply amazing and magnificent) but i would like to avoid squad leader, commander, arty and MG.
-
31/03/2020 at 21:15 #39113
Personally like the rifleman, solid class and i don’t feel bad taking it if i screw up!
-
09/02/2022 at 12:39 #83566

Same here. Sometimes I join the Squad and literally just ask ‘hey guys, so what role do you guys needs the most that you don’t have right now?’

02/04/2020 at 22:31 #39244
Well, my least favourite role in game would probably be anti tank or rifleman. I like being in a team and having a role to fulfill. I like playing squadleader and i like playing medic and HMG.
-
21/04/2020 at 22:07 #40357
Think I would have go tank commander as can be a lot of fun with a good crew.
Outside of that I enjoy the recon roles as a lot of fun sneaking round behind enemy lines and hunting down op’s and garrisons etc…
In normal squad play think I would got auto rifle or medic. But most of the time I just play what role is needed by the squad leader.
-

I don’t know how to play MG haha, I’ve never actually tried that one or been asked to. I think anti-tank is very useful so it would be worth giving it a go next time if you want to spice things up though 🙂 I agree with you about riflemen ugh
-
-
22/04/2020 at 12:14 #40390
My least favorite role is rifleman as well. I just don’t like it and feel like you’re not adding much to the team, save the ammo box.
I do enjoy playing sl with a good communicating squad. That’s when you really feel the impact six guys can have in this game. I also like to play recon and get a steamroll going if I can. And last but not least I like the at. Watching something big blow up just has something satisfying to it.
-
10/07/2021 at 13:04 #69209
Not keen on the officer role (even though I tend to take it often), at currently approaching lvl 9 officer, it was fun at first but most people dont have mic and dont act upon orders so its not fun anymore, I tend to go engineer or supplies but need to rank up others now.
-
11/07/2021 at 15:26 #69278
least favourite is medic, but that is the one i’ve played most because no one else will. only having 20 rifle bullets isn’t too helpful especially when no rifleman wants to drop ammo for you. my favourite is at which i seem to have a fair amount of success with. officer is nice when people talk, terrible when they don’t, in which case i’m off to find a squad that does
-
15/07/2021 at 22:16 #69449
Rifleman. This role is to basic nothing extra except munition box. I love medic except moment where i need to shoot as german. It’s a role that goes behind squad or heal everyone in defence.
-
25/07/2021 at 12:23 #69758
With all roles you get some decent action in the game, but there is this one …
-
03/08/2021 at 22:32 #70150
I don’t really like being rifleman because I like to play a supporting role in a squad and being support or medic are more that type.
-
14/08/2021 at 20:41 #70855
I personally really like the rifleman because it’s a versatile role in terms of who you want to support. In the games where I’ve played with good teams, it’s usually the assault that moves first and covering them as rifleman always feels very satisfying.
I dislike playing SL because I am not very good at communicating and I don’t know what’s important yet.
That being said, I still haven’t tried the spotter/sniper roles but I’m pretty interested in them. It’s difficult to find a spot, though. And obviously it’s best to play with a spotter or sniper that you trust.
-
14/11/2021 at 17:55 #77081
I don’t have a least fav role.
I just like to play a bit of everything
but the most played role I play is like Assault role and automatic riflemen role
but coming to the conclusion my least fav role is probably riflemen…
-
21/11/2021 at 09:18 #77453
Favorites are Engineer, assault, AT and machinegunner
least favorite is Medic, rifleman and automatic rifleman
-
21/11/2021 at 10:25 #77461
Haven’t tried commander yet. And that will most likely be my least played. I just turned level 44 yesterday and still trying to find out wtf I’m doing lol. -Have tried squadleader a few times and like it ok. MG is my best though. Especially american. There’s something to that basslike Dum-Dum-Dum sound of the 50.Cal Browning compared to the angry Chihuahua sound the Mg34 and Mg42 makes. – Won’t even talk about the russain MG. Slow and seems to run out of ammo so fast.
-
21/11/2021 at 23:05 #77498
Medic not so much
I didn’t even reach 20 hours in this game but I already feel like the medic role is somehow redundant in this game since respawning takes less time than being revived.
Despite that, I somehow enjoy it so far since my making goal in this game is to survive as long as possible and occasionally help people for now.
-
24/11/2021 at 08:58 #77575
Exactely my thoughts too about the medic. And it seems they sometimes run forever to revive people and in the last second the release… – Must be so frustrating. Or if they actually reach a guy, they themselves, get killed by the same person who killed the one they try to rescue.. – Guess thats life of a combat medic…
-
-
06/12/2021 at 21:52 #79006
As you described, I also really dislike the MG role.
-
09/12/2021 at 11:27 #79216
I enjoy medic, but the inherit fault I can see is that its a reactive class rather then a proactive one. Best defense is offense after all killing enemies seems more efficient then tending wounded when they can just respawn. Plus most of the time its risky to revive.
-
09/12/2021 at 17:36 #79248
My favourite role is definitely the Medic, I enjoy being able to support my team and if I’m 100% honest I’m not the worlds best shot so the ability to play a style where the number 1 priority is getting the team up so the push can continue is extremely enjoyable for me. Although it can be frustrating, as mentioned before, that you can run for what feels like forever just to get absolutely obliterated right as you are reviving someone.
In terms of my least favourite role I have to say, to go up against – the MG, a skilled MG player really can hold the line. To play myself, Engineer, I just haven’t spent a lot of time with the role so maybe in the future that could change 🙂
-
10/12/2021 at 13:35 #79324
Since a lot of people are unconvinced about the medic role, I figured I should share some of my own insights.
I mainly see the medic as an offensive role. You start with a rifle, which ensures you can keep your distance. Then if your OP and officer go down, you can revive your officer so a new OP can be placed.
It’s a risky role, but I think the weapon loadout is pretty decent so it’s a choice between a rifleman with extra explosive ammo or a medic who has a healing kit and a syringe.
Offensively a great role if you don’t hunt for tanks.
-
11/12/2021 at 23:01 #79414
that would be rifleman. i think thats the most useless role in the game, poorly armed and as extra you get an ammo box, rather level up the support and get his automatic rifle + explosive ammo + regular ammo + the ability to watch recon planes with the SL
-
15/12/2021 at 17:50 #79597
MG is pretty hard because you lack the rapid reaction time (unless you want to bother with the pistol) Engineer i find can be pretty dull considering the wasted potential when your team’s just not supplying you in the right areas. The are very few issues in the game that cannot be solved with effective comms however!
-
15/01/2022 at 13:47 #81131
Personally my least favourite has to be rifleman, i feel fairly useless when playing/levelling it up as i always feel i could better contribute to the squad when i select a different role
SL and commander in particularly can be very fun and rewarding, but as many other people here said it just takes time and experience with a role to understand and enjoy it
-
15/01/2022 at 19:32 #81159
Tank Scout for me is the most reliably immersive experience. Tank squads tend have at least one experienced player within, and all will usually be mic’d up. There’s something special about screaming “PANZER AT 240 GETTING AN AIM ON US!!!” like a grown child and racking up 30-40 Kills whilst being able to completely swing the momentum of a fight when executed well. Love it.
Least favourite has to be rifleman/Auto rifleman. Unless rushing an objective the benefits the BAR has over the M1 garand is not very noticeable in my experience, and if other members of your squad are not filling support/engineer roles and your officer is not placing OP’s, you’re gonna have a bad time regardless of how fast you can pew pew your weapon. Rifleman again is more of a cannon fodder class IMO.
-
16/01/2022 at 13:44 #81206
love arty and tanks but don’t mind doing anything as long as im helping a team
-
19/01/2022 at 17:52 #81505
Medic is just a different game in itself and I like it that way, loadout two is a great support role with a ton of smoke grenades for assault 🙂 The real frustration is Engineer without resources, best you can do is set traps with mines and then join the shooting.
-
01/02/2022 at 12:01 #82941
I love the recon team. Either sniper or spotter tbh. You can cause so much dmg behind enemy lines by placing op’s and spotting and marking for commanders captains and for arty support. Many dont actually realise how crutial a recon team is and arty. I love medic because its the only power card to play in the game when it comes to numbers. Bodies = capturing. If your team is dead and there is no one to contest the capture of a base then its win or loose. Even if you can just rez 1 or 2 ppl and by doing that take out an OP is a win. I always try and rez as many as I can. Id like to get some experience as an officer perhaps and get some tips and tticks to help the rest.
Support engi and mg I have not played that much or as a armored personel. A good tank crew and support from infantry can cause a lot of havoc as I have seen the past few days in games where my team just got rolled. I like to play arty with a good recon team to just annihilate enemy strong holds so yea id say recon medic arty would be the classes I enjoy the most atm. Whilling to learn the rest though hence me asking so many questions.
Thanks

Personally, I find Officer and Assault the most entertaining. I was ‘forced’ (lack of squad leaders) to play Officer my first game ever and compared to other tactical shooters it was surprisingly easy to get the hang of. It didn’t go perfectly, but the job got done! Assault mostly because I love the Thompson and playing the more aggressive “entry frag” role in team-based shooters. 🙂 If you got a premade to game with I can recommend doing a recon squad too, a lot of fun when given the freedom to play saboteur-style behind enemy lines. Picking off supply lines etc 🙂
-
26/02/2022 at 22:15 #84566
Medic – never played, never wanted to.
-
28/02/2022 at 22:01 #84652
I dont really enjoy the Rifleman, although i never played in an recon squad, so maybe i dont enjoy those roles either. But i really enjoy the Assault-, the Support- and the AT-Role.
-
11/03/2022 at 21:31 #85188
I’ve played medic some, but it’s sure to get you killed on a revive. Then of coarse, it is said that it a useless position in HLL. Support should be rewarding but only if the SL is building garrisons and not just OP’s.
-
14/03/2022 at 14:37 #85356
I would like to change my view on least liked role.
I used to play SL alot but now I only take the role if a squad looses there’s just to place ops and keep responsible times faster for that squad.
I do like playing SL on occasion but it depends who you get in your squad and if they want to follow orders.
I usually start a match with support and engineer switching between roles to get nodes and fortifications up, then I switch to other roles to try and rank them up abit, rifleman isn’t that bad and machine gunner but most don’t know how to use the machine gunner and suppression to help your squad or team advance, or going alone to suppress one side of a point making them think there’s an attack coming from a different direction.
I have started playing tank driver and to be honest I like driving them (don’t like the gunners position), been in a tank is a totally different game play aspect to the game and is quite refreshing, I can see myself playing in this position for quite a while and can not wait till more vehicles come out.
-
19/06/2022 at 13:16 #90275
I love to play sniper or sl. Machine gunner i don’t play so much because i like to run around instead of sitting at one spot. I did play every single role in the game already.
-
15/07/2022 at 12:37 #91660
My least fav role would be squad leader (plus arty and tanks) – too much pressure 😀
I enjoy recon sniper or any role on the unit/squad that is needed at the time.
-
03/08/2022 at 04:18 #92725
Anything that requires any kind of responsibility except maybe engineer and support these two go together so well it’s a great bonding experience
Usually I just play rifleman
-
08/08/2022 at 12:30 #93031
Easily the medic role. For me most of the time it’s just not that useful. Why risk your life and 20 seconds to potentially revive someone when he can just respawn? Most of the time they tap out anwyays
-
11/08/2022 at 20:47 #93310
I think Officer, but that’s because I’m not confident enough to give shotcalls in English. And Medic as Firefly stated
-
11/08/2022 at 21:29 #93318
I think Officer, but that’s because I’m not confident enough to give shotcalls in English. And Medic as Firefly stated
Just start with putting outposts down to lower spawn time and most people will be happy, you can start defending a point and gin experience that way.
You could try a flanking manoeuvre and put outposts down in behind the enemies point etc, the gamers are quite happy to have a new lad leading there squad so they don’t have to.
If you have members of your squad that don’t speak or like to do what they want and not work as a squad member boot them from squad someone will come along that plays the part
-
24/08/2022 at 21:38 #93861
My favorites would be, Officer/SQL, Offensive engineer, Assault or AT.
In short I like playing around with Satchels.
-
23/05/2023 at 14:29 #103683
Not particularly fond of Medic, SL or commander, anything besides that, count me in and lead the way.
-
31/05/2023 at 08:08 #104161
Least favourite role in game would probably be the medic.
1. Officer/Squad leader Spotter/Recon – Lvl 10 experience in this role.
My favourite and primary role is to recon out ahead of the main force and carry out intelligence gathering while remaining undetected. Responsible for planning routes, selecting targets such targets may include neutralising counter-snipers enemy op’s, enemy garrisons and enemy artillery operators. This for me a versatile role.
2. Officer/Infantry Squad leader – Lvl 10 experience in this role. Second-favourite role.
As a squad leader you must ensure that your soldiers clearly understand their responsibilities as members of the team i.e. If they or not Communicating and or don’t act upon orders I remove them from my squad asp.
But I’m quite happy to fulfil any responsibility within the squad as needed.
-
19/08/2023 at 13:15 #107024
For me, it depends on the situation. I love playing medic, because it makes me feel usefull when I get the chance to pick people up. I love playing AT, because destroying enemy machinery is satisfying. I love playing engineer on defensive maps, machinegunner is fun too… Support is great when you work well with your squad and provide the SL with resources and your AT with explosive ammo.
I’m not a huge fan of the assault and automatic rifleman roles, as they are focused on the pure combat. I prefer the roles with specific tasks, which can help my teammates 🙂
I also don’t like to be a squad leader, because there is too much communication going on in all the channels and I’m not able to focus, so in the end it makes me a bad SL 🙂
Never played tanks squad or a commander, so cant judge those roles.
-
26/11/2023 at 17:45 #111679
I allways played medic but stopped as it feels like everyone respawns so thats my least fav role at the min.
-
10/03/2024 at 08:57 #117878
Medic is the most boring for me.
-
03/04/2024 at 20:20 #118796
Generally enjoy leading role positions because nothing sucks away the fun as much as seeing an opportunity, but not being able to act upon it. Flank, coordinate, work together. So being able to do something is my fav. Having said that, Automatic rifleman does not cut it for me. There is just nothing special about this role. Sure, you get BAR or STG-44 etc. but that’s it. At least some riflemen kits have an explosive ammo crate.
-
13/08/2024 at 18:02 #121714
Machine gunner is probably my least favorite as well, I feel like I can never see sht, and I’m always the one being targeted. BOOO.
