Patch 1.7 | Live Now

Patch 1.7 is here, and brings our final patch before Hell Let Loose: Vietnam launch its next major content drop with Update 2.0 in November.
This patch introduces weapon changes including the addition of Hell Let Loose fan favourite the M1A1 Thompson, as well as a new 30-round magazine option for the M16A1. We also are bringing significant visual and performance upgrades, Tank Shell Unloading, improvements to Boats, punishment changes and another extensive round of quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes.
We’ve also continued acting on your feedback, with changes including improved Boat spawn behaviour, more Barbed Wire for Engineers, a reduced AFK timer on Official Servers and additional controller options.
And once Patch 1.7 is in your hands, all eyes turn to Update 2.0, bringing our first new battlefield, Khe Sanh, the expansion of the US & Allied Forces with the arrival of ANZAC Forces, new weapons and much more.
Be sure to watch the latest Command Post video where our first look for Khe Sanh has been revealed.
Here’s everything arriving in Patch 1.7.

Patch 1.7 Overview | Command Post

Weapon Changes

We are excited to be bringing a fan-favourite submachine gun over from Hell Let Loose to help boost the US Forces weapon pool:

M1A1 Thompson

The M1A1 Thompson joins the US Forces arsenal with Patch 1.7, bringing another hard-hitting close-quarters option to the battlefield and providing the US with an SMG counterpart to the NVA’s K50M.
The M1A1 Thompson will be available to the following roles:
  • Commander
  • Armor: Tank Commander. Crewman
  • Mortar: Mortar Observer
  • Recon: Sniper
  • Infantry: Squad Leader, Medic, Specialist, Grenadier, Engineer
Be sure to watch the latest command post to hear from the dev team about bringing this weapon over from Hell Let Loose into Hell Let Loose: Vietnam.
To learn more about the history of the M1A1 Thompson and its use during the Vietnam War, be sure to check out our partner’s, the Royal Armouries, description below:
“The Thompson was initially developed in 1919, but was widely adopted by the US military in 1938 and saw extensive use during World War 2. The Thompson was declared obsolete in 1957, but a large number of the SMGs were kept in storage. So when military aid to South Vietnam was increased, these Thompsons were sent to be used primarily by the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN).
While the Thompson was provided in large numbers to South Vietnam, it saw limited use during the Vietnam War. With the Thompson being designed for trench warfare, it excelled at close-quarters combat, this was thanks to its relatively slow muzzle velocity and .45 caliber, meaning the Thompson hit hard at close range. However, the Thompson was also heavy, had poor penetration through the dense jungle foliage, and had complex maintenance needs, which meant it was not widely adopted by the ARVN. These issues meant it was quickly replaced by the M16A1 when it came into service.”

M16A1 – 30 Round Magazine

We are continuing to show some love to the US Force’s primary assault rifle, as the M16A1 sees another change after Patch 1.5’s balance update.
Alongside its existing 20-round magazine, the M16A1 can now be equipped with an optional 30-round magazine.
The 30-round configuration comes with 6 magazines by default, which can be increased to a maximum of 10 through the Barracks loadout system.
That additional ammunition comes with a trade-off, as the gun with a 30-round mag weighs an extra point, and each 30-round magazine costs 2 Weight, compared with 1 Weight for the existing 20-round magazine. giving players another choice when building their loadout.

Vehicle Updates

Boat Spawn Protection

Following your feedback in our recent Community Updates, we’ve made an important change to how Transport Boats behave when their driver leaves the controls.
When a player manually leaves the Driver seat, the Boat’s engine will now automatically switch off, allowing it to become available as a spawn point without another player needing to enter the vehicle first.
However, following your feedback, we’ve deliberately preserved an important piece of counterplay. If the Driver is killed while still in their seat, the engine will remain running. This means successfully eliminating an enemy Boat Driver can still prevent that Boat from immediately becoming available as a spawn point.

Boat Handling, Speed & Fuel Costs

We’ve made several balancing changes to both factions’ boats to make them more responsive and easier to navigate through tighter waterways.
Both boats have received improvements to handling and top speed.
The US PBR now has a greater advantage in speed and acceleration to offset the NVA boat’s ability to transport Supplies.
To better reflect that additional utility, the NVA boat’s Fuel cost has increased by 50 fuel, from 200 to 250 fuel.

Tank Shell Unloading

A familiar feature from Hell Let Loose arrives in Vietnam with Patch 1.7, as Tank crews can now unload their currently chambered shell when switching ammunition types, removing the need to fire the loaded round before changing ammunition.
Simply cycle to, or select another shell type and the current loaded round will be unloaded before the new ammunition type is automatically loaded.
This may be a small change, but for those tankers familiar to Hell Let Loose, we know you’ll be very excited to see this feature return.

Visual & Performance Upgrades

PlayStation 5 Pro PSSR

Patch 1.7 introduces PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) support for PS5 Pro, helping deliver improved image clarity and visual stability.
For players on the base PS5, we’re also looking to integrate PlayStation’s recently announced QSSR technology once it becomes available for us to implement.
We’ll share more details on that integration in the future.

PlayStation 5 VRR

Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is now supported on compatible displays for both PS5 and PS5 Pro, joining the existing VRR support on Xbox Series X|S.
VRR helps provide smoother and more consistent frame delivery by reducing visible screen tearing and judder during fluctuations in frame rate.

AMD FSR Frame Generation

Alongside the introduction of FSR 4.1 in Hotfix 1.5.2, Patch 1.7 brings AMD FSR Frame Generation to supported AMD GPUs (5000 series and above).
Frame Generation creates additional frames between traditionally rendered frames to help deliver a smoother experience and increase the displayed frame rate.
The option can be enabled through the Video Settings on supported hardware.
For the best experience, we recommend using Frame Generation when your base frame rate is already around 60 FPS or above, particularly when targeting higher-refresh-rate displays otherwise latency will increase.

Other Notable Updates

Redeployment & Punishment Updates

We’ve reviewed several areas where the current punishment system could penalise players for using intended gameplay mechanics.
Firstly, we’ve removed the 10-second punishment for choosing to Redeploy.
Redeploying is an important tactical tool for repositioning around the battlefield, and players will still need to wait for the normal deployment timer before returning to the fight.
Secondly, we’ve also changed how Commander Orders interact with team-kill punishments.
Friendlies wandering it to hot-zones is all too common after an order has been issued for the greater good of the team. Commanders will therefore no longer receive a team-kill punishment when friendly players are killed by Commander abilities such as:
  • Napalm
  • Artillery Strikes
  • Bombing Runs
This way Commanders won’t have to wait potentially minutes at a time to re-spawn after death.
Personal weapons and other direct actions will continue to behave as normal.

NATO Phonetic Alphabet

Unit names have been updated to use the NATO Phonetic Alphabet, providing period-appropriate naming across Squads:
A – Alfa, B – Bravo, C – Charlie, D – Delta, E – Echo, F – Foxtrot, G – Golf, H – Hotel, I – India, J – Juliett, K – Kilo, L – Lima, M – Mike, N – November, O – Oscar, P – Papa, Q – Quebec, R – Romeo, S – Sierra, T – Tango, U – Uniform, V – Victor, W – Whiskey, X – X-ray, Y – Yankee, Z – Zulu

Other Important Changes in Patch 1.7

Alongside the headline changes above, Patch 1.7 includes a number of additional quality-of-life improvements requested by the community:
  • Barracks Navigation – Removed the lengthy camera sequence when entering and leaving the Barracks, allowing you to move between front-end menus much faster.
  • Official Server AFK Timer – Reduced the AFK kick timer on Official Servers from 30 minutes to 10 minutes, helping free up spaces occupied by inactive players.
  • Vehicle Impact Thresholds – Further increased the vehicle speed required to run over and kill infantry, reducing deaths caused by slow-moving vehicles.
  • More Barbed Wire – Engineers can now construct 3 Barbed Wire placements, increased from 2. The team-wide limit has been adjusted to 50.
  • Controller Crouch/Melee Toggle – Added a new controller option allowing players to swap the Crouch and Melee inputs across all controller layouts.
  • Tutorials – Improved the UI so that the status of the tutorials is now more clearly labelled, so you know which tutorials have and haven’t been completed.
