Quiet a few people don’t appreciate the merciless, but to understand how the mechanics work and get a lot of DPS you can watch the following youtube video.

You can maximize your damage output by priming a target. To merciless perks works like hitting 2 bullets while tapping 1 time the fire button. If you hit the first bullet and the second bullet will miss you will prime your target at the 5th cycle your damage output is increased by 75%. You can even stack it even further by using demolitions build and add 15% explosive damage bonus and equip each piece of gearset equipment with destructive (20% increased damage boost). By doing this you can easily hit in the 1.8m-3m dps. Also the explosive perk penetrates through armor so a wardog and other bosses are killed instantly by priming targets 4 or 5 times.

The rifle build is good for medium to long distances so using a lmg or smg as secondary (or primary) weapon makes the build more usefull overall.
