Great images! It’s very intriguing to find historical knowledge spread in a gaming community. It makes it really stand out.

life in the CU CHI tunnels …

    • #16318

Encredible how they managed such big tunnels…

all soldiers and civilians had to dig 1meter a day…and they make the big ones in 3 months ..that is the underground parts

..not counting the trenches on top/near the compounds.

interesting part: look at the shape of the tunnels….this is made that way to withstand the bomb-explosions better.

a tunnel 20meter underground was able to take b52 bombs direct hit…. 70% of Vietnam soil is Red clay…great for this kind of structures.

Not in the early days of the war, but in the later stages. The early ones are probably mostly recoloured, however from the late 60s to the end of the war should mostly be in colour.

How do u like these National Front warrior-girls with M-16 rifle and M-1 carbine?

With the appearance in 1967-68 of the ARV of a new American M-16 rifle, it also appeared in service with the Viet Cong. The Vietnamese nicknamed it the “Black Rifle”. It showed low efficiency during the fighting in the Vietnamese jungle. The barrel of the weapon and the bolt of the “black rifle” supplied to Vietnam were not chrome plated, and there were no cleaning kits. All this led to the fact that the machine was quickly clogged with carbon and broke down.

This suposed to applies to units of local forces that did not enjoy sufficient support from North Vietnam. These are definely propaganda photos but the girls are really look gorgeous!

Damn, I didn’t knew the vietnam war lasted 20 years… that’s an incredible war effort…

Now I understand why the public opinion was against it…

Seeing the AA in this thread reminds me of a (in)famous picture of Jane Fonda. For those that don’t know, Fonda is an American actress, writer, model and a political activist. She was in opposition of the war which lead to her trips to North Vietnam in 1972 to witness the american bombing campaigns firsthand, it is here she came under the nickname “Hanoi Jane” by US troops because of her controversial actions. She was pictured seated in a NVA AA gun and also hosted several radio programs on North-Vietnamese radio during here trips in the region which she lated faced harsh criticism for doing, both by the american public and the US government.

Jane Fonda on the NVA anti-aircraft gun

It is an interesting piece of history and shows how divisive the war was for the American people.

Has anyone seen this picture ? Apparently from the North and is not fake and shows NVA ambushing ARVN troops, in the distance there is NVA flanking. If it is real its an incredible photo, probably the best CQB-esque photo I’ve seen !
