      Hello fellow PBS members,

As i promised on our recent HLL International Match topic. Here is the compact guide/chart about most of the stuff there is to know about Tanks and Anti-Tanks in HLL.

I will try to keep this guide as up to date as i can. Informations below are sourced from all around (YouTube videos, PBS members, GoogleDoc/SteamCommunity guides and personal experience). Feel free to contribute any tips and tricks related to the subject into this topic. But keep it “brief/compact” so any newcomers dont feel overwhelmed. 😉

      Tank Squad – Crew Designation/Responsibilities
(In most common 2 man setup)

Position #1 – Driver (while moving) Spotter (while stationary)
      – in charge of movement and positioning of tank (usually a Squad Leader)
      – informing the Gunner when you are about to move (to prevent missing possible target)
      – countering Anti-Tank infantry
If you are not in active fight with enemy tank, then you should always and without hesitation immediately stop the tank, shift to first or reverse gear and rotate towards the enemy Anti-Tank infantry to prevent second Bazooka/Panzerschreck/AT Gun shot in the weakspot/rear. This is usually achievable even without Spotter telling you from where the shot came from. You can hear the direction of impact/shot most of the time. Same tactic goes for encounter with enemy tank. Face it with frontal armor.

      Position #2
      – Spotter (while moving) Gunner (while stationary)
      – always have a loaded shell ready (preferably AP)
      – always be on a lookout for enemy tanks and AT guns/infantry
      – warning the driver of nearby wide trenches or other diffucult terrain (your camera is higher than driver)
      – guiding the driver while inside of wheatfield (your camera is higher than driver)
      – countering AT Mines
“If the tank is moving on the road you should always zoom in on the road ahead and keep a lookout for enemy mines. With zoom optics you will usually see them much easier and faster than driver.”

      Transmission (Gears and Shifting)
When not carrying friendly troops on top of your tank:
Start engine → Hit [Shift] to 1st Gear → Wait for tachometer (rev counter) to reach the beginning of Max (red zone) → Hold [Shift] until you reach last gear (4th)
“This way you can skip all the middle gears and reach top speed the fastest.”

When you are carrying friendly troops on top of your tank:
Start engine → Hit [Shift] to 1st Gear → Wait for tachometer (rev counter) to reach the beginning of Max (red zone) → *Infantry start to climb on the tank* Wait for confirmation that they are on top → Hit [Shift] to 2nd Gear → Shift through remaining gears, but stay in every gear for about 2 seconds. (Never use brakes with infantry on top. Slow down by downshifting and order them to jump off. Or you will kill them.)
“Rapid acceleration/deceleration kills or drops troops on top of you. And when you are driving slower tanks infantry should try to climb on while in higher gears. ie. Tiger need 2nd or 3rd gear for infantry to climb on.
Thanks @Proximo@Elektro for tips regarding the troop carry.

      Turning the Tank (Drift)
While approaching turn you can quickly downshift 1 gear down and after 1 or 2 seconds (while steering left/right) quickly upshift 1 gear up. That way you will not loose speed (and engine will not stall) and increase your turning speed dramaticaly.

      Shooting the Tank:
Before you look at chart bellow (which i put together based on up-to-date guides from multiple sources). Keep in mind. In current version of the game. The most important thing is trying to be facing your gun/cannon perpendicular to the flatest possible surface of the targeted tank if possible.

Upper chart is dedicated to Anti-Tank infantry (Explaining what tank can be destroyed with what and how many shots you need)
Lower chart is dedicated to Tank vs Tank combat (Explaining how many shots from which Tank you need to destroy the Tank in top row)
American Heavy Tank “Jumbo” 75mm is identical to “Jumbo” 76mm in every way (armor, speed, health) except the gun (firepower) that is why it is shown only as one column.

I will also perhaps attach visual overview of all the tanks in a single image at some point. So every member of PBS will be able to quickly visually recognise the tank and know the correct name/type. 😉

This chart is outdated in some sense. You should use the below new pictures as a guideline for tank penetration.

That would be cool, you are making great posts m8 🙂

Those last images also help some people with visual differentiation between the tanks 🙂

I believe there is a mistake in the table above, if I’m reading it correctly: 2 shots from a 76 into the turret of the tiger and the axis tank blows up in pieces… tested tonight with Proximo and Electro…

@G. Threepwood Thanks for letting me know. 🙂

I just tested it and the chart is correct. You need 3 AP shells from Jumbo 76mm to destroy Tiger Tank by shooting the Turret. Video as a proof is provided below:

Huge improvement for tanks/vehicles with regards to Update 8.

We can now go through small stone walls, small and medium trees, rocks, cows, tree stump and other small/medium rubble!
