So we’ve finally got trailer and a release date for Battlefield 1’s first expansion pack – The French-themed “They Shall Not Pass” will hit consoles and PC for those with Premium subscriptions on March 14th. Those without premium can buy the DLC separately on March 28th.

I had a lot of requests for a “what did you miss” episode, so here’s an analysis and breakdown of the new trailer for “They Shall Not Pass.”

In the opening shot we get closer look at the new Trench Raider elite included in the DLC, and it’s safe to say the shot takes place on the Verdun Heights map, which we’ve yet to see on the CTE.

Poppies are synonymous with World War I, as they only thrive on disturbed ground.

The phrase “Ils ne passeront pas” translates to the DLC’s title, “They Shall Not Pass,” a phrase made popular by French General Robert Nivelle and what was to become the rallying cry of French forces defending the fortified city of Verdun.

The new howitzer is likely a British BL 12-inch siege gun, and we’ve seen them in the CTE, though they don’t appear usable at this time.

They Shall Not Pass includes a new behemoth, the Char 2C, seen here driving through a farmhouse on Rupture. Picardie is a massive tank brimming with the firepower of a 75mm gun and four machine guns.

We get also our first real look at the Verdun Heights map included in the DLC. The map is set during the battles for the city in 1916, and the fires seen here are the result of around one million German artillery shells shattering French positions.

We still don’t know all the details on the new trench raider class in They Shall Not Pass, but he appears armed with a massive club and at least two grenades. I’m very interested to see how effective this elite is in close-quarters combat, and we do get a tease in a shot. The trench raider’s melee weapon appears to be a one-hit-kill weapon with an extremely short takedown time. This might seem overpowered, but I’d guess he’s pretty easy to take down if you keep your distance.

It looks like Verdun Heights won’t have any shortage of bunkers on the map and will deliver the “trench warfare” style fighting many people have been clamoring for. It appears the trench raider won’t be the only elite available on this map: we can also see the flametrooper and sentry with the fast-firing villar perosa machine gun will make an appearance.
