The developers behind Battlefield 1 have released new images for the Turning Tides expansion – due out in December.

We already know the Zeebrugge Raid and the Gallipoli Offensive are included in the DLC, but one of the new concept art images showcases an unannounced map, which appears to be the Battle of Heligoland Bight.

The image appears to spotlight the naval action between the German and British navies near the Heligoland Bight in 1914. The island of Heligoland was itself a Naval Base during World War I, and the Heligoland Bight was an area vital to German shipping. The Battle of Heligoland Bight in 1914 was a daring effort by the British to ambush German destroyers.

In the ensuing combat on August 28th 1914, the Germans lost three light cruisers, one destroyer, and two torpedo boats. Many other Germans ships suffered heavy damage. Only one British light cruiser and three British destroyers were damaged.

During the fighting, the massive 30.5 cm shore batteries on Heligoland attempted to engage British ships, but were limited by poor visibility.
