A nice tactical view from Japke:
Teamwork Squad Guidelines:
⦠Teamleader:
– TL should always discuss tactics with SL’s at the start of the round. Assign certain jobs to certain SL’s which will then give out orders to it’s squadmembers.
– Ask for enemy marks as soon as possible.
– Always be sure to warn your teammembers before putting down artillery, napalm, spooky,… Give them the exact location (â€arty incoming south of charlie, grid E6) and tell them to check their maps.
– Tell your SL to move there squad in after the artillery is over.
– Never send your squads in the same way, use flanking maneuvers. Be sure to keep at least one squad on objective while others flank so it keeps the enemy busy.
– Try not to stay behind at the HQ radio all the time, ask for radioman so you can advance. A good TL that can join the fight from a distance is far more valuable. If you are a VC TL be sure to use ambush deployment in enemy areas so you can overrun the objective.
⦠Squadleader:
– Squadleader gives out orders that should be followed at all times.
– Mark enemy locations on the map by using either map grid and/or wind direction
– Be sure to mark enemy locations for fire support from artillery
– Appoint certain soldiers to certain jobs. Like â€player 1 & 2 scout that area for me†This will prevent you from getting 5 players on you when you said â€Two on meâ€
– Put down tunnels if you’re VC or try to stay alive just behind the frontline if you are US. A good squadleader should never be on the frontline, send out scouts for you to recon the area.
– Make sure your squad covers a certain area you are in from all sides. Asssign certain soldiers to certain directions.
– When advancing into an area make sure your squad forms a line, don’t walk to close to each other. Squadmembers should be about 5-10 meters from each other and looking over all surrounding areas. This will make your squad much less vulnerable to incoming enemy fire or explosives.
⦠Private:
– Always follow orders from your SL, however discussing tactics is allowed.
– A squad member should always stay in the vicinity of the rest of the squad.
– Mark enemy locations on the map by using either map grid and/or wind direction.
– When getting into contact be sure to call out the amount of foes and there location.
– Try not to engage before calling out enemy positions, so your teammates know where the enemy is at and can get into cover.
– Be sure to do what is expected from your chosen class. Roleplay is extremely essential in good teamplay.
– Proximity chat will play a huge role in teamplay when this is implemented, be sure to use it accordingly. Try not to spam the squad/team chat with banter.
⦠Classes:
– Rifleman/Guerilla: attacking forces, your main goal is to get into the objective, pull out flanking maneuvers, cover your squadmates and scout the area. If on VC side be sure to always put out your punji traps at the start of a round. Don’t forget to use your grenades but always call out (via proximity chat) when throwing a grenade or when a grenade has been thrown to your direction.
– Pointman/Scouts: mostly for getting in cover when rushing into objectives. Smokes are essential in the advancement towards an objective. It’s your job to put out cover for the advancing squads. You should be on the frontline at all times, capping objectives and covering your squadmates.
– Machine gunners: covering fire is your main goal, cover your squadmates from a good lockout point or on the frontline when advancing towards enemy territory. Be sure to follow orders you should be receiving from your SL (â€MG put some covering for on that position so we can advance or get into coverâ€). Don’t run around to much and learn to fire in prone or resting your gun at all time.
– Sniper/Marksman: find a good overview of the battlefield and start spotting enemies is your main goal. Wait for others from your SL to cover certain area’s from a far. Always call out enemy locations to your squad or where you engaged an enemy.
– Combat engineer/sapper: wait for orders to use your explosives if on US side. Sappers be sure to place in your traps at places where the enemy is most likely to enter an objective/area.
– Grenadier/RPG: SL should give you orders to engage certain areas where you are not able to see the enemies directly. RPG should try to attack enemy helicopters. If you’re not a good shot don’t waste your ammo on it. Be sure to always warn your surroundings when firing to prevent backblast damage (use proximity chat when implemented)
– Radioman: always stay close to your TL, radiomen should NEVER be on the frontline. Protect your TL at all times.
– Combat/transport pilot: engage objectives from the air, ask SL or TL for orders where to attack or give covering fire while advancing. Transport pilots should try to bring SL and squadmembers into a flanking postions. Don’t get too close to the objective so you they won’t notice you. -

I like to do this in small steps, but steps toward more valuble communication and i believe RS2 is made for it.
Before we do it, we have to setup a meeting and put something on paper 🙂

The gameplay of this evening was a very big improvement..we tried to hang on to our squadleaders and commander.
We kept winning too!
Lets continue to work on it 🙂

Those are nice tips.
Have you ever though about setting up some “training days” (a precise day and hour to try to play more “seriously”)?
I’ve always liked the idea of a clan war of 32 vs 32 where the whole team is coordinated. That would be awesome in my opinion.

I have problem with identify, when we have about 10+ players in discord. Can we add some tip, like always say to who you are tell something? Maybe even always ending phrase with “rodger” in roleplay? xD

Again this evening a great fight night… 4 squads!
Communication is key, and we did win eventualy… commander has key role in using the squad leaders.
No unneeded talk, just important communication only and coordinates via the map.
Hope you guys enjoyed it?

Yeah, good communication is still something we have to work at…
I might get offensive with this next bit, yet I think this needs to be said, since I feel some people might agree with me, but don’t want to get on anyone’s bad side so they keep it to themselves.
I don’t mind the RS2 General chat to be on voice detect, it’s meant for some casual gaming.
But we can’t call a channel ”tactical” where there are 10+ people in it with voice detection, because:- There are always a few guys that constantly transmit static, push to talk would limit that static transmission.
- Sooner than later one or two guys go AFK (possibly a squad leader) and you start hearing them/their family members in the background – please switch to spectator and mute yourself if you are not playing!
- Then 3 guys are munching on the loudest possible snack they can find (I mean, it’s cool, I’m glad that you are not starving, but keep it to yourself, please?)
- Another guy decides it’s time to sing a song way off key…
I could go on but the point is, it all amounts to the kinda noise that personally just can’t take it anymore and I leave/mute discord.
I would really like to put forward the idea that I think Kove recommended, to make a ”training” day at a specific day and time every week, for all of us that really want to play ”tactical”.Please, let me know your toughts on this guys! 🙂

I’ve suggested the “training day” for a simple reason.
We all like 2 things: have fun and win :pSome one day want more to have fun, some like more to win.
So, if we have a separate day for trainig/tactical play, we would know when exactly some “dicking” is also allowed 🙂
I hope to have explained myself correctly.
