The 2003 alt classic surges in streaming & sales.

The newly released trailer for the highly anticipated video game Battlefield 1 not only has gamers everywhere atwitter, but it also has spurred big streaming and sales gains for a classic hit that soundtracks its gameplay.

A synch in the game’s official reveal trailer, debuted May 6, sparked increases for The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army, ” which vaulted by 146 percent to 2.4 million U.S. streams and by 332 percent to 11,000 downloads sold in the tracking week ending May 12, according to Nielsen Music.

A three-week No. 1 on Alternative Songs in 2003, “Army” arrives at No. 9 on Rock Streaming Songs (its first appearance on the chart in more than two years) and at Nos. 10 and 13, respectively, on Alternative Digital Songs and Rock Digital Songs. The latter two ranks are career highs for the White Strips; previously, the pair charted as high as Nos. 14 and 18 on the respective charts with the song.

 

The version of “Army” that appears in the trailer (which has, as of this posting, drawn 32 million worldwide views on YouTube) is the Glitch Mob remix, which was originally released in 2011 as Glitch Mob’s tribute to the White Stripes following the duo’s official breakup that year. Frontman Jack White has gone on to lucrative success as a soloist; released two albums, 2012’s Blunderbuss and 2014’s Lazaretto; and has most recently been heard on Beyonce’s album Lemonade as featured on the song “Don’t Hurt Yourself.”

Battlefield 1, the 14th release in the video game franchise, is scheduled for release Oct. 21.

This song was already very good, but i like the BF1 version even more. And it’s the walk-on song from ‘our’ darter Michael van Gerwen 🙂
