      Yo,

Having played a bit, both with you and before, I developed some thoughts about communication in-game.

For sure while we are like 5-6 people on discord everything is fine, but when we are like 20 some problems may arise.

      The main problem is overcommunication.
Just a “watch behind you”, when there are 20 people may be a problem, because commander is trying to give orders, squad leaders try to give feedback, and squad members try to give feedback too.
This leads to a constant speaking, that may distract us for just play.
Personally my brain can’t simple manage that, it gives me an headache, literally.

Second problem is noise. A cough, a telephone ringing, a parent talking may lead to a simply unmanageble situation.

So my proposal, also considering the future 32vs32 cw is simple: simply using integrated in-game communication when we are more than 10-15.
Obviusly we’ll need to use also in-game text chat, squad chat, etcetera.

In case of lot of people we can stay logged in discord and mute it, and re-activate it when integrated in-game comm can’t be used (map changes, etc).

What do you think about it?

For training and clanwar we will do seperate channels per squad (TL and SQ members)

      The commander uses ingame voice

For regular gaming I am thinking about push to talk

Is it possible to display the speakers name via discord ingame… Because like you said.. even with 4-5 people I have hard time knowing who is talking right now..Thats why I would like to use ingame comm. instead, there I can see the name at least.

Yeah, me too for that reason. I’ve tried to set up discord’s overlay without success. That’s why I say that for “serious” matches integrated in-game comm is better.

Could always get teamspeak, with a free addon called; overwolf. It’s an addon on teamspeak that will display the players name that is talking and also display who joined or just left the channel. Might be an idea to switch to teamspeak?

You can also make hotkeys to quickly switch between channels, for example SL/TL channel to squad channels etc. etc. You’ve got a lot more options than on discord I think.

It will make it a lot more easier for tactical play and it will be  a lot clearer if you know who is talking.

We can keep the discord of course, but maybe get a teamspeak for when people want to play games like Rising Storm or Squad, that require a more tactical approach. And when there are more than five or six players, I guess teamspeak would be a better solution.

I like tokeep discord as main hub and com center.

      Ts is old

In time you will know eachothers voices or the overlay might work

Hello friends. I just joined as a recruit and logged into discord for the first time earlier in the week. And I had to mute it after a while because I could neither follow what was going on nor focus on the game with all the commenting that was going on. I don’t mean to complain, just offering my experience. There was so much commenting that was going on about the team commander being an idiot, the “oh fuck, I died,” “man, teamkilled again!” and so on. It sounded like the people involved were having lots of fun and socialising in this way, but it was constant chatter, at least half not co-operation related, and it broke my immersion and ability to participate immensely. It helped later at night when only a few people were there and the focus was on co-operating on squad-level. Just my two cents as a new player with you guys as I love the team-play aspect of serious players 🙂

      Exactly my thoughts.

      Yes,

I must say the trainings go nice , because you are all splitup in squads.

Now the evenings where we have about  3 squads or more in one discord channel i notices only a few guys talking … Thats why i made the rules. I know some people just joke about things etc, but some humour can be a bit too much..

And on the other side i see people not talking, even 5 peoplge together with mic muted.

Best thing is to moderate this and see how it goes..  I have seen sessions with 32 people on discord and all focussing…

Every time splitting in discord on channels is not good for social activity, so there is a balance to be found 🙂

In the end, this is a luxury that we have so many people, but i am sure we will work it out and its a issue existing since the early days of the clan in Teamspeak.

I have been less active for the last few weeks because like some of you I too don’t take ”crowded” discord well and so when I see alot of people in RS2 general chat my first toughts are, do I really want to join in? 😀

If we use proper communication methods it won’t be confusing. No matter how many people are online.
      1. We keep using the squad dividing on discord like we had been doing, and commander can be reached by the ingame ”team voice chat”
      2. We could try the ”radio operator ID” methode. So basically you say who you are and who the message is for, and only after the ID you proceed with the message.
Example: Korobac to commander, (use the term ”commander” because people tend to mix squad leader with team leader), SL3 mark is good, multiple enemies have been spotted around that mark, any support would be appreciated.
      3. If you yell: ”Frank grenade!” Our glorious leader will know to get the hell out of dodge. Opposed to: ”watch out, grenade” because at this point Frank thinks to himself, was he talking to me or *BOOM*
      4.
Lot of people still believe that left and right are better opposed to the cardinal directions/compass. And I just don’t see why is it so hard to look at either your HUD or even the map to give your team more precise description of the location.

And on the side note, I’m gonna be a douchebag again, but here goes… you can’t complain about other people and their various background noises, while you are also part of that problem, with your different yet equally annoying background noises. So everyone should do their best to make their broadcasting as tolerable to other players as possible.

I think yesterday the communication was almost perfect. Being split in multiple discord channels, one for squad, works.

So, personally I think we must continue this way for tactical training and cw.

    • #19665

The main thing is too continue practising and i think we did this 🙂

I am also for bonding between each other and having a laugh, but not too much to sacrifise teamwork. As said its a balance

While we are in momentum, we could setup 2 training days per week .

I like where we are going, please continue to participate 🙂

    • #19666

I’m not sure that 2 “training evenings” are the best choice. We’ll probably split too much.

Also, missing the overlay drives me crazy… I have big problems understanding who is actually talking. I’ll try a post in the discord forum *sigh*

you will learn the voices as more you game 🙂
