Competition from AMD appears to be triggering Intel to offer a massive 40 to 50 percent price cut on the company’s refreshed line of Core i9 desktop processors.

The new 10th-generation Core i9 chips will launch in November in four variants, starting at $590 up to $979. That may sound like a lot, but it’s actually a huge bargain when you compare the pricing to last year’s 9th generation line, which still retail from $999 to $1999.

You can check out the full specs below. The new i9 processors, which have been codenamed “Cascade Lake-X,” range from 10 cores up to 18. The chips also come with 48 PCIe 3.0 lanes, which is four more than last year’s chip line.

      Intel i9 Core Specs 4

All four chips have a thermal design power at 165 watts. Other features include support for up to 256GB of DDR4 RAM —which is twice as much as last year’s line— Thunderbolt 3, and Intel’s Optane SSD 905P.

Intel is making the price cut when rival AMD is preparing to launch new silicon in November as well. This includes the company’s 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X chip, a gaming processor that’s slated to retail for $749. For PC builders who want even more power, AMD is also preparing at least one new Threadripper processor that’ll run on 24 cores.

In the meantime, AMD’s Ryzen 9 3900X is already in the market. The 12-core processor has received rave reviews and is in such high demand the $499 chip has been out of stock at many electronic retailers.

The refreshed line of Core i9 chips could steal some attention away from AMD. However, the refreshed processor line from Intel starts at 10 cores, and doesn’t include a 16 core chip. Stay tuned for our reviews once we get our hands on the new silicon.
