November 13, 1942, light cruiser USS Juneau is sunk by Japanese torpedoes. Only ten of the crew were rescued eight days later.
Among the dead was the Five Sullivan Brothers : Joseph Eugene … Francis Henry … Albert Leo … Madison Abel … George Thomas.
US military policy was changed after this, not allowing relatives to serve in the same unit.
