For quite some time now that I realized the Gunner sight is not always accurate to the target depends on a few circumstances. So I conducted a little test to prove my point as below
1. Zoom scaling.
Most American tanks have no issue regarding zooming the point at still be on target 
However, there is one particular tank that has this problem is Stuart, the light tank.

It is hardly changed when zooming in or zooming out. None the else, it shifted slightly to the left upon zooming in.

German tanks do all have this zoom scaling.

Which raised me a question. Does the shot landed on which point, so I tested out that in the far distance further than 20 metres the shell will always land on second level zoom or third level zoom. For the target within 20 metres of the tank, the first level zoom will do the job. It does for all the German tanks.

2. Tank elevation
Many Tankers may know that the elevation of the tank does affect its accuracy.  So I decide to do it anyway. I have tested on Panther and Luch and these test results may not be the same for the other tanks in this game.

Since the front down test gave me unsteady aim I will use this left side down to do some testing.


As the results show. None of the shells landed near the pointer.
Luch does really show how significant the tank elevation is.

Conclusion.
There are a few factors why shells won’t landed on the target first being that gravity existed and shells are flying trajectory.
It is hardly affected the accuracy at long distances when the zooming scale doesn’t affect further than 20 metres.
And it is important to put your tank on flat ground in order to shoot straight.

Note: I tested the Panther’s trajectory because the sight doesn’t offer any clear indicator. So I made a reference for distance shooting with Panther (Also works on Tiger put to 400m because I haven’t tested it on Tiger apart from real gameplay)
