I played HLL again today after a long break. It was nice to ‘see’ some old friendly faces.
Unfortunately I got Shanghaied into playing as Squad Lead. I say unfortunately because I tell them I don’t enjoy it, although I do really. (Just don’t tell Erske.)
What I don’t like is the noise. I’m first to complain when nobody speaks; to me the game only works when people talk but today’s game was sheer bedlam.
The Commander was trying to carry out his role, the squad all had opinions as did the other Squad Leads. I couldn’t hear myself think. The game sorely lacks some mechanism whereby unwanted noise can be muted. I mean temporarily. (Gone are the days of good old simplex radio where you spoke, said ‘over’ and then the other guy responded.)
I think, from now on, I’m going to mute the other SLs so that I can listen to my Squad and the Commander. I really don’t want to hear Able’s opinion of what I’m doing or not doing. If they need to talk to me they can do it through the Commander.
How do other people cope with this?
