There is another alternative (similar to your macro), which I use to keep my client alive in TD2 or other online games and that is to use a keyboard or gamepad macro. On my G13 for example, I input forward and backward movements, with left and right, that polls every 5 seconds or so, this is on a loop, so I can be afk for a considerable time, grab a brew go for a smoke and maybe cook some chicken, come back and all is as it should be 🙂
