The Map
The map itself consists of four areas: The street outside, Brixley Talent Time, a U4 Convivence Store and a courtyard that connects both buildings.
The Street
The Street is the maps insertion point. In Single Player, it is entirely absent of enemies or civilian NPCs (with the occasional exception of one homeless man), presumably having been evacuated by the LSPD. As part of the Row, the street Brixley’s Talent Time sits on is filthy and dilapidated. Months worth of trash have accumulated on the curb and makeshift tents of the city’s homeless litter the sidewalk.
An abandoned Debanco Security truck can be found, along with picket signs protesting Senator Fremont’s Veterans funding cut bill, foreshadowing the level Ides of March.
From the street, the player can gain entry to the U4 Convenience Store, which is directly right of their insertion point, which will lead them into the back section of the court yard. Entrance to Brixley Talent Time can be gained from the far side of the street, which has been barricaded by the LSPD – Preventing players from leaving the map.
The courtyard can be entered directly from the the fence between two buildings.
Convenience Store
The Convenience Store is much smaller than the one in “Thank You, Come Again”. The publicly accessible portion of the premises comprises only of a small store. Despite the dilapidated surroundings, the store is in decent condition, although a shotgun under the counter suggest it is a common target of robberies. In the back of the store is a hallway which leads to storage, a locker room and toilets, through which, the courtyard can also be accessed.
It is absent of civilians, and enemies will never spawn inside on Single Player, but depending on the actions of the players and NPCs, suspects may take refuge inside during a firefight.
Courtyard
The courtyard is connected to both buildings, and the roof to Brixley’s Talent Time is accessible via a fire escape, giving an additional point of entry, The Courtyard itself is covered with bags of trash, abandoned cars and what seems to be another homeless camp. It is often inhabited with at least 2-4 enemies and commonly the player will also encounter civilians here.
It is not recommended that new players chose the courtyard as their first entry point, as firefights in this open space can quickly get out of hand, especially if there are enemies on the roof. Guards inside the building, including Brixley himself, will often run outside to assist their colleagues.
Brixley Talent Time
Brixley Talent Time itself is situated inside a disused Needle Depository, The Martinez Safe Injection Clinic. Used as front for Talent Scouting, this place is a breeding ground for exploitation, fraud and sexual assault. The building itself is in a complete state of disrepair, littered with clutter along with signage and paraphilia of the premises previous tenants.
The lobby of the building can be accessed from the front street, and is usually populated by at least 2 enemies. The bulletproof glass booth can prove hazardous if a guard is standing inside it, but it is never-the-less usually the easiest point to gain entry.
Inside the reception there are usually several female civilians. When arrested, they will say various interesting things. (E.g; “Just get my children out of here!” or “I just want a future for my boy!”) Be warned, as guards often patrol this area, and may hit the civilians. The receptionist may also be found here, but she is still regarded as a civilian and not a suspect.
There is a children’s waiting room containing discarded toys, clothes, games and clothes. The walls are plastered in posters and children’s headshots. There is a casting room, called the “Smile Room”, which contains some unnerving imagery of smiling faces and more children’s headshots. It is connected to Brixley’s office, where the player will usually encounter him.
Brixley will almost always take his own life when players or their team members enter the room unless he has first been pacified by using CS gas, flashbangs, tasers or pepper spray. This will not fail the mission, but will result in a bad rating. This is more likely to happen if players enter the building through the courtyard, as Brixley often joins the firefight and fires at players, before turning the gun on himself when his henchmen are killed or pacified.
Inside Brixley’s office, among various unnerving imagery of children, is a computer containing an open chat window with Amos Voll. The chatlog implicates Brixley in supplying Voll with children for his pedophile ring. |
