things i can think of quickly :

-you can share all your gear between characters, as wel as phoenix credits, so you get extra storage space.
-you can do the weekly/daily missions per character (good gear drops) so you can do weekly HVT for example, two times per week if you have 2 characters. means double the loot drop.
-level up a second char in the underground for extra caches you get when reaching a new level
