Disclaimer: By no means an expert.

Firstly, practice and time. That goes without saying. Watch youtube tutorials, build your basic knowledge of the tanks. The tank bible(https://theline.gg/tankbible) is amazing.

Secondly, try to get into a full squad. I really am not a fan of 2 man tank crews, or even solo. But, when you get into a squad and all know and understand your roles you will find it to be one of the most intense tanking experiences in gaming.

For spotting, 90% of the battle is using command chat. You need good squads to help you spot enemy tanks. Premark them, use your map, try to know roughly where they will be. Then you can think, “if I was a tiger tank and I knew that we were coming, where would I hide?”

When you do spot, ping and mark. But keep your head on a swivel, you don’t need to be fully zoomed in on one AT guy, because what about the guy behind you with a satchel? Only the spotter has such great visibility. The driver can always see front(can’t zoom of course), the turret turns slowly so they can’t be much help behind.  When I play spotter, once I ping a target for the gunner I am looking elsewhere. I can always come back to check if that target is no longer a threat etc. Likewise vs tanks, try to help the gunner, call if the shots are low/high. Ping the weak spots on the tanks. Again the Tank bible will really help.

As a driver, its just practice and game knowledge. Watch videos, I like Fresh Baked Goods, (https://www.youtube.com/c/TheFreshBakedGoods/videos) watch those. Learn what you can drive through and you can’t. Think and try “odd” routes. Use your knowledge to turn the tanks to present the worst shot to your enemy. If you are in a Tiger/Jumbo, then only let them shoot you in the front or of course preferably not at all.

Above all it really is just practice, try to get into a squad with a few more experienced tankers(PBS has plenty!) and learn from them, ask and they will be sure to help out.

Hopefully some of this and the linked resources you will find somewhat useful, and if you ever see me asking for a tanking buddy feel free to come join!
