“Welcome to the Outer Rim! Our team has been working hard to bring new content, features and updates to the battlefront. Community feedback has been a crucial part of our updates since launch and we’re excited to reveal the full details around this release.”
While the Outer Rim digital expansion does bring exclusive items and content to players who either own the Season Pass or the individual expansion pack, this release also brings feature updates for the entire community to enjoy.
The Outer Rim:
New Locations**:
Expand the battle into close-quarters action set in Jabba’s Palace and fast-paced verticality in the factories of SoroSuub, these new locations bring four unique maps to Star Wars™ Battlefront™.
Jabba’s Palace
Narrow corridors and gloomy rooms make up this iconic space – Throne Room, Mud Bath and more included.
Palace Garage
The back entrance to the palace contains a large garage for skiffs and barges, as well as an outside junkyard and Droid repair rooms.
SoroSuub Refinery
The large indoor area of the fabled Sullustan factory, where goods are made and shipped off the all parts of the galaxy. Roaring fires and maze-like scaffolding make for an impressive sight.
SoroSuub Pipelines
The outside area of SoroSuub, where factory debris is discarded through massive pipes down to the lava rivers below and factory goods are packed and prepared for shipping.
New Game Mode**:
Extraction
Rebels have entered some of the most dangerous places in the Outer Rim, determined to extract a shipment of vital resources to their GR-75 transport ship. The Empire has sent its stormtroopers to stop them. Learn more about Extraction here.
The Hero and Villain**:
Meet your new hero and villain: Greedo and Nien Nunb! In addition to unique new hero abilities, both characters also have active traits that allow for deep and rewarding gameplay.
Greedo: This bounty hunter is a fast and reckless gunslinger who darts in and out of combat to keep his confidence high. His abilities revolve around a confidence meter ranging from 1-5. Starting out as a very average fighter, he will gains kills to unlock new abilities – and grow his confidence. Greedo’s grenades are upgraded for each tier and the damage of his Precision Shots ability is increased with his confidence.
Nien Nunb: This Sullustian is a defensive, calculating hero who provides strategic reinforcements and lethal precision to the Rebel. His central trait is connected to his turret. As Nien Nunb kills enemies, his turret is upgraded, turning it into a very formidable foe. He is a combination of sharpshooter, engineer and pilot, which is reflected in his abilities like the Rapid Pulse Cannon, his unique Turret and an Orbital Strike (in close quarters, the Orbital Strike is replaced with Proximity Bombs).
New Features
Our team has constantly been reviewing the community’s feedback and working hard to bring new features and content to the battlefront. While we’re only scratching the surface here, we’re happy to introduce the following new features.
Hutt Contracts:
This feature allows players to engage with Jabba the Hutt himself, taking on dangerous contracts in order to unlock new Star Cards and Weapons. Our team is committed to ensuring some of this content will be available to the entire community, so look for special contracts that do not require expansion packs to access. To start players out, these are the initial contracts we’re delivering:
Bounty Hunter 1 – DL-18
Targeting Trooper – DLT-19X
Contract Killer – Relby-V10**
Rodinia Choice – DT-12**
Combat Rush – Adrenaline Stim**
Hostile Negotiations – Dioxis Grenade**
Slugthrower – Scatter Gun**
Quick Match and Playlists
With the release of Outer Rim, we’re introducing an improved way for players to find multiplayer games quickly. As you go into “Multiplayer†now, you will be given the option of matchmaking into any 40 player mode (Walker Assault, Supremacy and Turning Point), any 12 player mode (Cargo, Droid Run, Drop Zone – downsized from 16 to 12 players) or any Hero Mode (Heroes vs Villains or Hero Hunt – which has been upped to 12 players). You will still have the option of going into matchmaking for a specific mode, map and private match as you please.
For owners of the Outer Rim DLC, we’re introducing playlists as a way to experience the adventures in the Outer Rim. This playlist contains a various array of game modes, including the new Extraction mode, Heroes vs Villains, Blast, Cargo and Droid Run played out on the 4 new maps in the DLC. The playlist is for 16 players (on all modes available in the DLC) and it will take players approximately 8-10 hours of gameplay in order to go through the entire Outer Rim playlist, before it starts over.
Teamplay Focus
In order to help facilitate in-game communication between teammates, we’re introducing a feature that allows players to “tag†or “focus†on any game mode objective. By looking at the in game UI-icon and pressing USE, you will let the rest of your team know that you will be focusing on that objective. For each player that focuses in on a particular objective, the number next to the UI icon increases, giving everyone in the game an overview of where the rest of the team will be going. Very useful for organizing teamplay in game modes with multiple objectives.
Spectator Mode
As part of our continued work on Private Match, we’re introducing a new Spectator feature available to all players for free. This feature is especially helpful for both competitive tournament players and cinematic video makers. Spectator mode allows you to join a Private Match as a spectator where you can track players on the server in Freecam, first person and third person. It features a player highlight outline toggle and the ability to “fire†at a player from freecam to transition easily right into their point of view. We have also included a “go to action†functionality where the spectator can immediately transition to a player who’s doing well enough to show up in the game mode event log (for interacting with an objective, becoming a hero or reaching the third rank of a trait). You can also switch between players using the scoreboard. We are excited to see all the new community creations players will create with this mode.
Combat Roll
In order to pay homage to the original Star Wars Battlefront franchise, we’re introducing Combat Roll for all soldiers. By strafing left or right while double-tapping Crouch (on consoles) or pressing ALT (on PC) your player will roll in that direction to quickly get out of danger or surprise a foe.
Progression/Level Cap Increase
This update will also expand the level cap from a max of 50 to level 60. At the new max level, all players can unlock the Weequay customization. Also look for new Greedo and Nein Nunb Diorama pieces to unlock.
New Trophies and Achievements**
Challenge yourself to unlock X new trophies and achievements within the Outer Rim.
