Unlike Jiller whose method we used last night & kept dying with, I prefer to drop in somewhere quiet like Gatka & quietly make my way around there & nearby buildings looting for weapons I like & whatever armor & meds I can scrounge up. If I’m in the circle then I’ll camp inside of a building with a shotgun at the ready until I’m forced to move. Easy top 10 to top 5 that way.
If you do decide to drop in like Jiller & there’s a bunch of other people dropping in at the same place with you, don’t bother wasting time chasing someone round trying to punch them to death. Try to grab any weapon as quick as you can – doesn’t matter what it is – lock & load it, don’t bother wasting time trying to find armor or better loot, just run out & try to take down as many people as possible while they are busy looting or engaging with other enemies. If you somehow manage to survive, resume looting for better weapons, armor, meds & vehicle that you can use to drive to somewhere more remote where you can camp out of the way while you wait for the other players to whittle away the numbers a wee bit.
Here’s a couple of extra tips. Always wear drab clothes (black, green, grey or brown). They are less easy for enemies to spot. A bright red or orange shirt or the yellow tracksuit is going to stick out like a sore thumb. Don’t bother with coats as they often end up making you more visible.
Also if happen to find yourself having to run across an open field without much cover & there’s a load of bushes, switch to crouch running & run through the bushes as enemies will have to double take if they happen to be looking your way without a decent scope. With some luck they’ll just think it was a bush they saw getting drawn in by the engine & ignore it. Also bushes are your friend in later stages of the game, as are the cornfields if you end up in them, but bushes are better because you have the higher ground over people lying prone – just a shame the foliage obstructs your bloody view somewhat.
Final tip. If you see a pan. Equip the pan. Love the pan. Cherish the pan forever. Pans can deflect bullets regardless of whether you are holding it, swinging it around like some nutcase tripping on acid, or have it stored on your back like a turtle. I recommend just storing it as it acts like a shield against people shooting from behind you. With some luck they’ll shoot low & hit the pan instead of center mass or your head. Plink! Plonk!
